About

In 2013 Joe Motacek saw a need for all non religious and critically thinking individuals to have a place of belonging in his community, so he created the Fox Valley Agnostic, Atheists and Freethinkers (FVAAF).  It began to bring together people that gathered for educational discussions, social outings and community bonding.

As the group developed a core membership there was discussion of wanting to reach out to more people and become more involved in the community. The group recognized that there were several barriers preventing people from coming to meetings – a consistent public location, funding, and consistent programming.

In 2017, the Secular Community Alliance was established in the state of Wisconsin as a not for profit Limited Liability Corporation by its first Board of Directors.  The SCA was created to facilitate enacting the vision of its secular members.

The SCA came out of the pandemic with a renewed active commitment to work toward the greater good of humanity.  We are committed to establishing, supporting and promoting secular communities throughout the country as well as aligning with non-religion based groups that are active in environmental, educational, economic, civil justice, and social causes.
