There are a lot of needs in the secular community that are going unmet, and these are preventing local non-religious communities from thriving. Our organization is dedicated to addressing these issues.
Establishing non-religious community centers.
One of the biggest challenges non-religious groups face is finding a place to congregate. There are sometimes free options in communities for groups to “meetup” but not always, and these places are often hard to find. We believe that if non-religious communities are to truly flourish in a community, they need a base of operations.
Establishing a charity with a reliable network of volunteers our Government can turn to in times of crisis.
When a crisis happens Federal and State agencies turn to well established charities who are connected to a vast network of volunteers to mobilize support from communities. Non-religious people do not have an organization like this yet and we need one. Non-believers or “Nones” are the fastest growing demographic in the United States, and we expect that number to continue to grow. In our experience non-religious people want to volunteer to help those in need but lack the opportunity to do so without going through a religious agency. We need to change this, and we do so by creating the network and becoming a resource.Establishing a charity with a reliable network of volunteers our government can turn to in times of crisis.
Educating our members.
Learning is a lifelong endeavor and providing those opportunities is one of the primary reasons that our local communities exist. As a leader of a group, I know how much effort goes into putting together information or a presentation for an upcoming meeting. One of the ways our organization wants to help local communities is by developing educational courses for local leaders to use. There are a lot of great sources out there these days from TED talks to YouTube but putting together a course takes effort, experience, and research. We want to work with educators to develop these courses and provide them to our member organizations on a wide range of topics so that our local communities can ensure our members continue their pursuit of knowledge.
Training the next generation of secular leaders.
Anyone who has ever been in a leadership position knows that they come with challenges. We believe that to encourage the continued growth of secular communities we must dedicate our efforts to training the next generation of leaders to lead existing groups and found new ones. These leaders need a versatile skillset and most of all they need support. Most non-religious groups fade or fail because they lack a leader that can provide the long-term stability a group needs to maintain its cohesion. To change this, we must dedicate resources to training and supporting future and current leaders.Training the next generation of secular leaders.
